This has been a hot debate in education for a couple of years now. In your response, I'd like you to list 3 reasons why cell phones should be allowed in school and 3 reasons why they shouldn't. This is a tough one! Try and really think about your response.

I think that cell phones should be permitted in school but only be placed on silent or vibrate if necessary. I believe this because a number of things are capable of happening, as far as emergencies. The top example that I refer to is the shooting that occured at columbine highschool in the movie "bowling ofr Columbine". That was the perfect example of why students should be able to have cellphones in school, for emergency phone calls that should be placed if needed.Students were held hostage and shot if they tried to escape .Luckily some students had their cell phones with them and were able to dial 911 calls. However I do think its necessary to restrict the use of cellphones to no texting in class and no interuptions/ or interferences with schoolwork.
I think cell phones should be allowed in school. Also as Rachel said on silent or vibrate. Some parents don't understand they can't call their childten in class but most times it's for something serious. If a parent was to have an emergency and had to go through the school to contacts their children it would take to long because they would have to find out what class their in. If a child abuses this privelage then it should be suspended for sometime. this includes unneccessary phone calls.
In my opinion, cell phones should be allowed in school because if there was an emergency in school or at home you have some form of outside contact. However i also believe that cell phones are a distraction and they disrupt the learning environment in the classroom. They should be punished for using cell phones under false pretenses but not severely punished because there could be good reasoning behind it.
i believe that cell phones should be allowed in school because it would make it easier for them to contact their parents when needed in case of an emergency or an unannounced early dismissal. there have been various cases of school being let out early due to technical problems. Also maybe if there is an family emergency. I do not agree with students using their phone in class or trying to text other students.

I think that cell phones should not be allowed in school. They should not be allowed because they are a very big distraction, students will be paying more attention to the phone and not the teacher. Also their work will not be done and most of them will not know how to do the work. while cell phones are fun they do not contribute to students education.
I feel that cellphones should be allowed in school. The phone should be placed on silent so that when they go off it won't disrupt anyone. Cel phones would only be used for emergencys.
cell phones should be allowed in school in case of a family emergency, also to help the day go by. Class are so long sometimes you need a break and have a different conversation with somebody else. Also because now a days it is impossible to be apart of technology we have to always check are twitters, facebook etc and see what's the latest news.
I think cell phones should be used in school because of an emergency but as chantelle and rachel said on vibrate or silence. If a parent wants to get in cotact with their child they call their students cell phones. I dont think students should have a cell phone in school because it is a distration especially texting when students should be focused on their work.
Cell phones should be allowed in schools but only during free periods. Not everyone has integrity and will uphold the vibration and during passing time rule, but people find a way to use their cell phones regardless! It happens whether or not it is permitted. Some schools allow it during study halls, lunch, and in the hallways. This isn't a distraction to the classroom setting so, why not?
I believe cell phones should be allowed in school for the simple fact they will never be able to stop a teenager from not bringing their cellphone wherever they go.
i think cell phones should be allowed only for seniors because seniors are more busy , they dont necessarily follow regular school scheduledue due to getting ready for college, important calls might be lost. reasons why i would say no, if the student is very careless and allows the phone to be a distraction. or if using the opportunity as an advantage to disrespect the teachers
I agree with john any if they are or are not a allowed a cell phone for a student is the a life line. also i seen plenty of teachers on there cell phones in school
@Trey why bother bringing your phone and putting it on silent, because how are you going to know when someone is calling you. It is more of a distraction when you have to keep taking your phone out and putting it on the desk to keep checking to see who is calling them. I could see if you put your phone on vibrate but not silent.
