Read the article from the Hartford Courant.

Please post your thoughts. I know you have them.

In-school suspension vs. Out-of-school suspension...any difference?

There is a big difference between iss an oss. When u have oss you won't be able to gather all of your work from your teachers, but with iss you will be able to gather your work.

I think Chastity has a point. When students are suspended outside of school most often they don't get all of their work to complete, and if they have any questions about it it's difficult for them to ask. I do agree with Philkwan though. No one should be getting suspended!

ISS is a more effective punishment than OSS. When students get OSS this is basically a vacation from school. They can talk on the phone, watch t.v, go to the mall or do almost anything they want without adult supervision which makes it even better.ISS makes sure students are doing school work and not having a good time. Suspenion is suppose to be a punishment. Letting a student "skip school" legally for doing something inappropriate is not a punishment in my opinion.I agree with Chastity: students are more likely to get their school work done in ISS than OSS, but I also agree with Philkwan: if i had to be suspended i would rather be in OSS for the simple fact that I can do whatever I want, sleep late, eat, get out of the house whenever, not be imprisoned in ISS for 8 hours.

Now what about the state of Connecticut mandating school systems to have an ISS program (meaning some systems will have to spend more money to put one in place) in this current economy?

i feel that there should just be iss because if they just had oss then i wouldn't get anything done and i would just be getting behind in my classes.iss would be better because you are able to get your work done because your in a work study environment and if you would have any questions on anything then you can ask for help instead of asking your parents who would have absolutely no clue to what you are doing. Either way it's a double negative because you are losing your education and learning time.

yo OSS is way better than ISS. ISS be mad cold in you be bored and you get the last left overs of the cold lunch. And they dont even let you get your own lunch any more so you get no freedom. In then every time you try to go to sleep you get in trouble. But OSS is the best. Whats better than being home alone, sleeping late, making your own lunch, and no dress code...........OSS 4 PRESIDENT

I agree with fugde boy. The student should be able to choose which one they want. But for me a person that never gets in trouble. I would rather do oss. Where i can be in the confort of my own home and have no one telling when to do my work.

I fully agree with this law. Most of the time when student are given out if school suspension it is like a mini vacation for them. They sit at home and watch T.V. Telling a child to not come to school is no form of punishment whatsoever. I believe that this law will cut down on the number of repeated times a student is suspended. Who want to stay in a silent room all day? No one, having in school suspension will help to stop the behavioral problems because the student is actually being punished. On top of that the student will be able to keep up with their school work. I have seen many cases when a student is suspended and they fall so far behind in class it is almost impossible for them to catch up. In the end the out of school suspension did nothing but hurt the student's education

As a punishment ISS is better. It really gets you upset that you have to spend the whole day in there and are unable to socialize. Once you're in there you never want to go back. It makes you think like i wish i never did what i did, or why didn't i just get OSS.

I believe there is a big differnce between in-school suspension and out-of-school because students do not take out of school suspension seriously. When students get out-of-school suspension they fall behind on the work they have to do. When you have in-school-suspension you can get the work from your teachers the day it is due.

I think it depends on the season and if the student is a athlete or not, because I would rather OSS during the fall and spring but in the winter I would much rather be in ISS because you can not play in if you are Suspended because your are not supposed to be on school ground.

I think having ISS is a worse than OSS. When you have OSS you are at home and can watch tv and listen to music. In ISS you have to sit there and do nothing. It is boring in ISS and if you have no work it is worse. Then you are stuck in a small room with people who you don't want to be with.

ISS an OSS is very different and depending on the parents OSS might be seen as a reward to some students and not as a punishment.

I feel that iss is more effective for students than oss. This is my reason because at home you can do anthing its like a vacation for you even though your loosing out on your work most students could care less. when your in iss your more disiplined and its more of a punishment.

@Tiffany I agree because more people take oss to their greatest advantage and sure their mother or father or parent guardian is really going to sit there for that week and punish you.
