Bullying

Click on the link below to read an article on bullying from the Hartford Courant. What are some of your thoughts on this topic?

From a teenager's perspective, what are some things teachers and administrators can do to reduce this problem in schools?

What is cyber-bullying? Are sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter making this easier for kids to do? How can society combat this issue?

Here is the article: Expert On Bullying Discusses Ways To Reduce The Problem

Teachers and administrators should stop avoiding the obvious. I'm sure they are aware of the day to day unacceptable actions of almost every young teenage student in the schools. They see that students are being bullied, but choose to do nothing about it because they refer to it as "typical" teenage behavior. This only sends the wrong message that the behavior should be condoned. Therefore, unless this issue is addressed in schools, it will continue to be as prevalent. The teachers and administrators are just as responsible as the students doing the bullying because they are not enforcing the rules that are already set in place to maintain structure. Sites like Myspace and Twitter simply make a person more vulnerable and more likely to become a victim of bullying. These sites allow a person to post unnecessary information about themselves that shouldn't always be broadcasted to the rest of the world. Especially now with sites like Formspring, where a person can be attacked annonymously, everyone should be more conscientious of what they are exposing themselves to. Parents also play a major role, as well. They can monitor their child and make sure that they are not becoming a bully and contributing to the issue. They should train their children to become a part of the solution and not contribute to the problem.

Extra credit indeed! Beautiful first official post on the blog! I do think adults need to do more to stop bullying, but parents need to be aware too when there child IS the bully and put an end to that. Kids also need to be smart about what they post on the Internet.

Cyber bullying is something like the use of technology(objects), an communication. It is also when someone harasses you and make fun of another person but it is constantly repeated. I think that if you respect other people, they might respect you as well. Now lets talk about the article with the girl from massachusetts, that article was something else an im pretty sure that the girl was telling her parents or guardians about the situtation. But i personally think that the girl should've told a teacher or someone at the school that she was being bullyed so they could put a stop to all of that.

Bullying is something that should not be tolerated because it is more than just teasing. Bullying can lead kids to seriously injuring themselves due to self deception. Nobody should feel that they are less or underneath somebody else. In this generation, bullying is at its peak , and continues to be one of the top most important issues within schools to this day.

I believe teachers and administration are not doing anything to help stop bullying. If a student goes to administration about a bullying problem they do not acknowledge it or take it seriously they only bipass it and when the student gets tired of the situation and tries to handle the situation on their own resulting in a fight they wonder why or say why did not they come back to administration again. Adults are not taking bullying seriously they make excuses for it instead. i see some teachers that contribute to bullying by talking about other students with the students they are comfortable with. Bullying is also getting worse. I see more people getting bullied over facebook, twitter, and Myspace. I see people killing themselves over cyber bullying. This is a serious mater and parents are not helping. Some kids are cared to go to their parents or administration because they do not want to be called a snitch. or even if they do go to their parents the parent would say do not worry about it. Recently a kid was getting bullied and the boy brought a pocket knife to school. Bullying is sad and it is hurting the children of today.

Bullying is even worse now because of Facebook and My Space. Everyone can write anything they want on there and that is when problems start. What is on Facebook is brought into school and then fights start. Everyone has to comment on what is on these pages and it only leads to bad things. I don't think teachers can stop this from happening because they can't control online. They just have to watch what is happening in school.

@Karina i understand what you are saying but what if the bully does not attend the same school as that individual how exactly can you wacth then.
